PUBLISHED: 6 JANUARY 2025

The Commonwealth Government has launched the new National Innovation Visa (NIV), a permanent visa program for exceptionally talented migrants, which replaced the Global Talent Visa as of 7 December 2024.

To apply for the NIV, you must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Department of Home Affairs. The Department of Home Affairs will then invite successful applicants to apply.

We encourage you to review your eligibility for the NIV and explore the available nomination options, including priority processing under the following four categories when lodging your application with the Commonwealth Government:

  1. Recipients of internationally prestigious awards. This includes Nobel Prize laureates, Fields Medal recipients, Booker Prize winners or Olympic gold medallists.
  1. Exceptionally talented people in their field who are endorsed by a relevant Australian state, territory or federal government agency.
  1. People with exceptional skills in critical technologies, renewables and low emission technologies and health industries.
  1. Exceptionally talented people in agri-food and ag-tech, resources, defence capabilities and space, education, financial services and fin-tech, and infrastructure and transport.

Information about state endorsement will be available on the Live in Melbourne website in 2025. In the meantime, other options are currently open, and you can now lodge your application directly with the Commonwealth Government.
