“Living in regional Victoria has improved my lifestyle. I have more time to enjoy the things I love.”
Jenica Mendoza began her career as a Chemical Engineer in the Philippines ten years ago. During her internship at Nestle, she discovered a passion for the food industry and pursued roles in the sector, eventually becoming Research and Development Manager.
While preparing to move to Australia, Jenica connected with SPC Global, one of Australia’s leading agribusinesses. After visiting their Shepparton factory, she accepted a role as a Process Specialist in November 2023. She now works as Senior Commercialisation Process Engineer, helping bring new products to life. “Food technologists develop the product, and I work with engineers and factory teams to make it work in the factory—whether that means new designs, machines, tests, or ways of thinking.”
Her transition to Shepparton was smooth, thanks to the guidance and support from her employer during her housing search. She quickly embraced her new role and the local community. In 2024, she was nominated by SPC Global for the Greater Shepparton Area Young Professional of the Year Awards, which recognises young professionals who champion their field and demonstrate a strong commitment to innovation and the community.
Jenica was nominated for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) in 2024. Reflecting fondly on her life in Shepparton, she highlights the sunny weather, lower cost of living and proximity to nature as key reasons she and her partner love the region.
“Before moving to Shepparton, I lived in Makati city where there's always traffic and life is fast. Being in regional Victoria gives me time to enjoy my relationships with the people closest to me and the little things I don’t get to do in the city because of how fast paced it is.”
“Shepparton has everything you need. Camping spots are just 30 minutes to an hour away. If I want to go to Melbourne, I can take the V/Line train. When we stay local, I enjoy being home and cooking. So there's a good balance of home life, outdoor activities, and social connections. I've been here almost two years now and I’m loving it.”
