There are a number of steps to follow after you have successfully applied for visa nomination.

Skilled visa nomination

Within one week of lodging your application you will be sent an acknowledgement email and unique reference number. We request that you do not contact us regarding your application before this time.

Processing time

The current processing time for skilled visa nomination applications is approximately 12 weeks.

Decision notification

You will be notified about your visa nomination outcome via email. If you are unsuccessful in your Victorian nomination application, you may reapply after six months.

Confirm acceptance

Victorian nomination is valid for four months from the date of the nomination notification email.  Within this time, you will need to lodge an EOI through SkillSelect and notify Victoria of this.

If you have registered your EOI on SkillSelect and you are nominated by the Victorian Government, you will automatically receive an invitation to apply for a visa, subject to occupation ceilings. You should inform the Victorian Government when you make your visa application to the Department of Home Affairs.

If we do not receive your valid EOI reference number within the four month period, your application will expire and your file will be closed.

Lodge your Department of Home Affairs visa application

When you lodge your visa application with the Department of Home Affairs, notify the Victorian Government. Being granted visa nomination does not guarantee that your visa application will be approved by the Department of Home Affairs.

The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for issuing and administering all Australian visas. Contact them directly or visit their website for information about lodging your visa application, visa requirements, obligations and processing times.

Notify us of your visa outcome

As part of your visa nomination commitment, you must notify us of your visa outcome by emailing: smp.applications@liveinmelbourne.vic.gov.au

Being nominated by the Victorian Government does not guarantee that your visa from the Department of Home Affairs will be granted.

Business visa nomination
